Many times I have to withdraw from the daily grind of my own religious routine. In doing so, I can take a moment to pause, gain perspective, and ponder my next move. Years ago I heard Graham Cooke preach a message on The Art of Staying Fresher Longer. I don't know if that was the exact title, but I remember the central premise of the message! There is an art to staying refreshed in the presence of God. It is simply giving Him permission to be who He wants to be in your life. It's as simple as that.
It is way too easy to get caught up in the disruptive distractions of social media, job, home life, etc. It's become increasingly important for me to be intentional in meditating on God's goodness and His will for my day. As I practice this spiritual discipline, God enters into my thoughtlife, like a gentleman, and graciously removes the rubbish of my own negative thinking and replaces it with His wisdom. God is generous like that. The presence of God always leads to refreshment for me. There is a purity and simplicity to walking with the Spirit throughout your day. Give Him permission.
As my family is in the final stages of closing on our home in MN, moving to AZ, and interviewing for new positions in AZ, I am more in need of the peace of God than ever. There are many hiccups in the process of relocating your family 2000 miles from everything that is familiar. We're walking off the proverbial map of our experience. Whenever stress rises up in this process, all I have to do is withdraw from the stress and into the comforting embrace of God. I truly believe that a generous person will prosper and that he who refreshes another through prayer and encouragement, will himself be blessed and refreshed. It's a recipe for spiritual vitality!
Be Blessed My Beloved Friends,
*One resource that has been really helpful is Graham Cooke's landmark message titled, The Inheritance. I encourage you to give it a listen. It will truly upgrade your thinking!
