Beauty is not something we simply behold … it's something we enter into. It disrupts our indifference and draws us to what is worth pursuing. Andre Rabe
I met Andre Rabe a few years ago up in the Fargo Moorhead area where he was speaking. I was awe struck by his keen intellect, his humility, and most importantly, his love for Christ.
Rather than rehashing the dogmatic theological opinions of others, he had constructed a beautiful and refreshing theology that revealed God to me in his most beautiful form, that of a loving Father. I took a copious amount of notes in those life changing sessions, which I still read from time to time. Andre spoke on the subject of Mimetic Theology and elucidated many important truths that I never really thought about. Most impactful to me was what he taught about the scapegoat mechanism. You'll have to research that on your own. One day, I'd like to enroll in his Mimesis Academy. Andre also introduced me to works of Rene Girard, Jean-Luc Marion, and David Bentley Hart. None of these authors are what I would consider easy reading, but they are definitely worthwhile to read.
Some time after this life changing experience, Andre released a video titled, "Icons of Beauty." This video changed my life. I loved the message and the high production value. It's a pure poetry for the eye and the ear. The video I am sharing below has become an important part of my work in lecturing on Christian Spirituality as a Chaplain in a drug and alcohol treatment center.
The video always leaves people in tears. More importantly it has helped them to heal from a distorted and perverse religious image of God. I wish Andre new how far reaching this video is, and especially how it has changed the lives of so many. Soon, my employment with the treatment center will come to an end, but the important work I've been a part of will continue.
I hope the message in this video finds resonance within you. Share your thoughts in the comments below!
Blessings to my beloved friends.
